Three Poisons

The three poisons, or the three unwholesome roots in Buddhism, refer to the three root kleshas: Moha (delusion, confusion), Raga (greed, sensual attachment), and Dvesha (aversion, hate). These lead to suffering. source

For Doctors to Help with Patients

Doctors must: 1) discover the origin of the illness; 2) achieve an understanding of the illness; 3) prescribe the appropriate medication to cure it; and 4) cure the illness in a manner that prevents it from reoccurring. source

Advice for Caretakers

1) insure that patients are tended to by good-hearted and skilful doctors; 2) always remain alert to the patient’s needs; 3) speak to their patients with kindness and compassion; 4) nourish the patients with the proper food in the correct manner; and 5) talk with skill and ease about the Dharma with the patients, instructing them in proper healthcare for the body and mind. source

Advice for Patients

1) be cautious and selective about food; 2) consume food at the proper intervals; 3) stay in touch with doctors and nurses, always acting kindly and graciously towards them; 4) keep an optimistic or hopeful outlook; and 5) be kind and considerate of those who are caring for you. A cooperative effort from the doctors, caretakers, and patients yields the best results. source
